Former Offensive Assistant for Penn State Football Team, Jerry Sandusky, (left) and the recently fired Syracuse Assistant Basketball Coach, Bernie Fine, (right) have casted dark clouds over each of their former universities. Not too long after Sandusky was arrested for sex abuse (story details here), a story aired on ESPN’s Outside The Lines about Bernie Fine’s alleged sex abuse of two former Syracuse ball boys. On November 27, 2011 Fine was fired from Syracuse. When the allegations were first revealed Syracuse Mens Head Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim, came to the immediate defense of Bernie Fine. Boeheim, dismissed the credibility of the accuser: “The Penn State thing came out and the kid behind this is trying to get money. He’s tried before. And now he’s trying again. If he gets this, he’s going to sue the university and Bernie.” said Boeheim in a press conference. After Fine was fired by Syracuse University, Boeheim, spoke to the press after a home game. He apologized for his previous statement about Fine’s accuser. Fine’s charges were dropped on December 7th due to the “statute of limitations”. On that same day Sandusky was arrested for a second time on more child sex abuse charges. Sandusky who is now wearing an electronic monitor appeared for his hearing in court today in which he continues to plea of not guilty. Bobby Davis, one of Fine’s original accusers recorded a phone conversation with Laurie Fine, Bernie’s wife. ESPN played the recording which was from 2002. On the recording Laurie admits to knowing about her husband’s interactions with Bobby and others.
Can somebody please explain to me how in the hell do you get bail with 52 counts of child sex abuse against you? The court allowed Sandusky bail of $250,000, at what point should it be in the public’s best interest to keep this man in jail? Some information that I wasn’t aware of surprised me; Sandusky has 6 adopted children and 8 children in all. He has two biological sons Jon Sandusky, who is the Director of Player Personnel for the Cleveland Browns and E.J. Sandusky, who’s an Assistant Football Coach for West Chester University. Another accuser has come forward with allegations against Bernie Fine, Zach Tomaselli claims Fine molested him in 2002, but the unfortunate irony of this accusation is that Tomaselli also has child sex abuse charges against him. He’s accused of sexually abusing a 13 year-old in 2009 while working at a day camp. Tomaselli also claimed he was sexually abused by his own father.
